Pool Shapes

When choosing a fiberglass pool, one of the first choices to be made is the pool shape and size. It is important to make sure that you or your pool builder measures the space available for a pool; remember to leave enough room around the pool for at least 3' of concrete to go around the pool. This ensures that your pool is secured properly. You should never leave the coping of the pool exposed. Aside from securing the pool in place, it's just plain ugly and looks like a tub in the ground and can void you pool's warranty with some manufacturers.

There are many shapes to choose from like rectangle, classic, roman, custom, kidney, and free form. The shape you choose should complement your backyard and work well with the other elements on the exterior and interior of your home. If you live in a modern home with straight lines, a free form pool may not look as nice as a rectangle or classic pool; unless, of course, you are going for that look.

As important as the shape are the dimensions of the pool. Keep in mind the uses that you have in mind for the pool. If you plan on spending a great deal of time playing water sports like volleyball, you may want to consider a sports pool; they are shaped like a ‘V' on the bottom. If your friends and family enjoy swimming in deeper water, you may want to consider a pool over 7' or 8' deep, which also adds the ability to include a jump board for added fun. Other pools have a gradual slop or flat bottom, depending on your needs. The important thing is to consider what you will be using the pool for and select a shape that will accommodate your needs.
